Aotearoa People's Network

APNK & Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Our partnersOne of the great things about working for the Aotearoa People's Network Kaharoa, other than the warm glowy feeling we get from making all that lovely free Internet available to folks, is that you get to learn about the different towns and districts around the country.

Because our network is made up of 136 sites from one end of the country to the other, and because we're regularly in contact with staff at these sites, everyone here at APNK HQ has a much better grasp on New Zealand geography than they had before they started working here. It's a natural consequence of daily thinking about the towns, large and small, that form part of the People's Network.

Many of the towns in which we have a presence have Māori names and for the team members amongst us who originally hail from far flung shores (we now have two Brits and a South African in our ranks) the pronunciation of these can prove challenging.

For Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori the team as a whole are focusing on getting their pronunciations of these place names right. Every day we'll be tweeting one APNK place name (with a guide to the correct pronunciation) so that everyone can join in.
