The desk of helpfulness
An important part of the APNK service is our helpdesk. Any day of the week* library staff can call our 0800 number and speak to a Technical Support Analyst who will talk them through any APNK-related technical issues they might be having.
Software we like - NVDA
The service we provide in public libraries around the country isn't just about the PCs and other equipment we offer. It's also about the software that we install that lets library customers do useful things with that equipment. This is the first in a series of posts in which we'll highlight some of the resources that are free to use on APNK computers, and some of the ways in which people are using them.
A change of image
Here at the People's Network we're quite focused our image, but it's not the stylishness of our shoes or the asymmetry of our fringes that preoccupies us. Oh no. No, it's the "image" that sits on the public PCs you'll find in libraries up and down the country that we're currently busy with.
A year of APNK
This is as true of organisations as it is of individuals and the APNK team is no different. Reflecting on the events of 2011 this much is clear, we are an agile, adaptable lot. Like most Christchurch-based teams we've faced some adversity this year but that's just highlighted more than ever what a committed, hardworking group of people this is. We're committed to making Christchurch great again and to providing the best service we possibly can to public libraries and their customers.

Putting APNK on the map

Ever since the People's Network began in 2007, maps have been important tools for the APNK team. Working from Christchurch but supporting PCs and other equipment in far flung parts of the country has markedly improved everyone's knowledge of New Zealand geography but there's nothing like a map when you're not sure where a library is and "somewhere in the North Island" isn't quite specific enough.
Libraries, APNK and job-seeking online

We love it here at APNK HQ when the staff out in library-land relay stories of how the equipment and Internet connection we provide is being used by real people. Anne-Maree in Hokitika did just that earlier in the week when she told us about a frantic job-seeker who was trying to apply for a job online.
APNK for Ashburton
The People's Network spread even wider this week with a successful installation at Ashburton Public Library in Mid-Canterbury. The people of Ashburton now have the use of 8 free PCs and wifi.
